A battery on somebody else's array

A five-year-old array we did not install, on a house that wanted backup rather than more production. The existing inverter stayed; storage was added AC-coupled behind it.

The whole retrofit ran in a single day, including the load-shed panel that keeps the well pump and the fridge alive and leaves the electric range off the backup circuit.

What was installed

  • 13.5 kWh of AC-coupled storage behind the existing inverter
  • A load-shed subpanel for well pump, fridge and lighting
  • Revenue-grade metering added at the point of interconnection
  • Standard monitoring plan

The existing inverter stayed. Everything new sits behind it.

The system has carried four outages since commissioning, the longest of them nineteen hours.
